665 GSM 100% cotton hotel towels, built with 20/2 ring-spun yarn in warp and pile, 16/1 ring-spun in the weft, with a double-stitched hem. This is the threshold grammage at which the terry towel stops being a functional hotel item and starts being part of the guest experience.
In the industry, 665 GSM is the conventional line that separates the standard hotel segment from real premium. Below it — towels for functional use. Above it — towels the guest remembers. Our 665 GSM line sits in the lower zone of that premium threshold — at a price that remains reasonable for 5-star hotels and SPA centres, and with a feel that doesn't fall short of heavier 700+ GSM lines.
Why 666 GSM is the premium threshold
This is the question hoteliers comparing it with 550 or 500 GSM often ask. The difference is not quantitative — it is qualitative.
Below 600 GSM the terry towel works on the principle of "function plus comfort" — it absorbs, dries, gives a good hand-feel. Above 600 GSM the towel starts working on the principle of "weight and density as sensory experience". The guest feels several things at once:
- •Weight in the hand on pickup — the towel "settles" in the hand, doesn't "fly". This is the first subconscious quality signal.
- •The depth of pile against the skin — fingers sink slightly into the fibre instead of sliding across the surface.
- •The speed at which water disappears — at high grammages absorption is almost instant, no need to rub or pass over twice.
- •The sense of warmth and volume after a bath — a premium towel keeps the body "wrapped", not just dried.
These sensations are not on the spec sheet. They are the reason 665 GSM costs what it costs.
What it is built for
We recommend 665 GSM terry towels for properties where the bath experience is part of the sales process:
- •5-star city hotels — as the standard across all rooms and suites. The guest is used to this fabric class and compares with competitors.
- •Wellness and SPA residences — where the towel contacts the body during treatments, relax and pool. Here density is part of the treatment effect, not just a hygiene tool.
- •Luxury resort properties — mountain, sea and island hotels at the upper end, where the guest spends significant time in robe and towel.
- •Boutique hotels with premium positioning — small properties with a high room rate where every detail is part of the concept.
- •Presidential and executive suites — as a separate standard versus the standard rooms in the same hotel.
For 4-star and upgrade segments we recommend the 500–550 GSM lines. For the very top premium segment (residences, private villas, special projects) — 700+ GSM lines.
20/2 construction at high density
Here is where things get technically interesting. At 665 GSM the same 20/2 yarn we use in 500 and 550 plays a different role. In economy lines it provides stability and durability. In premium grammage it provides the volume of the pile.
Why this matters: there are 665 GSM towels on the market made with cheaper yarns (16/1 in pile, for example) that compensate density with quantity, not fibre quality. Those towels look good in the first 30–50 cycles, but after that the loops start to fold over and the towel loses the "standing" structure that creates the premium feel.
The 20/2 yarn in our 665 GSM line means every loop is built from a two-ply thread. The result is a pile that returns to upright after every wash cycle — even after 150–200 cycles. That is the technical reason our line holds its premium feel for a genuinely long period.
For SPA treatments — specifics
One important note for SPA centres. During treatments (massage, wraps, scrub therapies) the client lies on the towel for 60–90 minutes. In that period the pile density plays several roles at once:
- •Thermal insulation — premium pile holds heat better, which is part of the treatment effect.
- •Comfort under the body — no sense of hardness or discomfort in zones under bony parts of the body.
- •Holding massage oils and creams in the work zone — they don't "leak through" to the sheet under the towel.
For SPA projects we often recommend a separate specification — larger sizes (90×180 cm or custom), the option of colour (white remains the most practical, but cream and sand tones work well for wellness aesthetic), and sometimes branding as part of the SPA line identity.
Care and longevity
Washing and drying at 60°C — sanitary standards are fully met. But at this density we recommend several specifics:
- •Longer dryer cycle — about 20–25% more time than 500 GSM. This must be factored into capacity planning.
- •No fabric softener whatsoever — especially important at this density, because the film on the loops compromises exactly the sensory feel you pay the premium for.
- •A separate drum if possible — at high density, friction with other textile items shows more visibly.
- •Enzymatic and oxygen-based bleach — chlorine aggressively attacks the two-ply 20/2 yarns and shortens the towel's premium life.
Under correct treatment, 665 GSM terry towels keep a premium appearance for 180 to 220 cycles. That is less than 555 GSM (240–280 cycles), but in the premium segment the criterion is not "how long does it last" — it is "when does it start looking tired in front of the guest".
Colour and finish
The standard execution is Optical white. On request we produce in cream, sand, light grey and other wellness tones that work well for SPA and boutique projects. In the premium segment colour is not just aesthetic — it is part of the concept.

Frequently asked questions
How does it differ tangibly from the 550 GSM line?
The guest feels two things: the weight of the towel in the hand on pickup, and the depth of the pile against the skin. This is a qualitative sensory step, not just "a little denser".
How long does it keep a premium appearance?
180–220 cycles at premium appearance. Above that threshold the towel remains fully functional, but starts to lose the "standing" pile structure that signals luxury. In premium properties we recommend planned replacement at that threshold.
Is branding possible?
Yes — a woven jacquard border with the logo, embroidery on the border, coloured trim. In the premium segment we recommend fine, discreet branding, not aggressive. A logo on the pile is not recommended — it compromises smoothness and absorbency.
Is it suitable for pool and beach?
Technically yes, but we don't recommend it. Chlorinated water and UV exposure shorten premium grammage life disproportionately fast. For pool and beach we recommend a separate line in more economical grammage (400–500 GSM), keeping 665 GSM for room and SPA.
